Stephanie Love Is a woman whose last name speaks Volumes, about her ability to spring into action. When their organization “Prepared The Gateway” Adopted a single student at Walbridge Elementary, Stephanie went Shopping passionately for this beautiful adolescent 11 year old girl. But It turned out that the girl had seven more siblings, and was In a single parent home. Immediately Stephanie and her husband George decided to Adopt the whole family of Nine. They started by buying brand new clothing, delivering food and furnishings their home with everything they needed. They also offered Mentorship to the whole family, while meeting them where they are at. We believe in giving back towards building better communities. This takes being Instrumental In the lives of the less fortunate, with the outpouring of love compassion and adhesiveness, to Insure healthy relationships, and to seal the fabric of the family Unit.

While we prepare ourselves to award more High-Five Scholarships in 2020, we thought it would be valuable to share how our scholarships are actually impacting students. We want donors and visitors to know that our scholarships are more than just symbolic gestures – they actually impact the lives of student-recipients in powerful, enduring ways.

For our first installment, we’re featuring a thoughtful letter from Levi Stockard III, a former Vashon High School student and High-Five Scholarship recipient. Levi graduated from Vashon High in 2017 before enrolling in Kansas State University on a full scholarship for his athletic prowess. According to Levi, Prepared’s High-Five Scholarship allowed him to purchase much-needed school and household supplies for his freshman year. Most importantly, it taught him the importance of unconditional love and integrity. Here’s the letter:

First I want to start off by introducing myself. My name is Levi Stockard III. A quick rundown of myself is I am a Vashon High School Graduate of 2017 in which now I am currently attending a four year college named Kansas State University. I received a full scholarship to go to this school based off my scholarly and athletic abilities. Along with being a full time student I am playing Division One basketball as well. My success as a student and basketball player for Vashon high school lead to my opportunities to receive a full scholarship. Now I am currently entering my junior year of college. My first two years I studied Kinesiology the study of exercise behavioral science, but now going into junior year I have chosen to go a different way in my studies. I am now studying Human Development and Family Science. After college I want to continue my athletic career for as long as I can physically do so. After that I want to become a coach first at the collegiate level if not that then any level would be fine. My goal as a coach is to serve as a positive role model for children and young adults while building them to become a successful adult themselves.

As a senior in High school I was blessed to be one of the five recipients of Mr. George Love’s High five scholarships. Receiving this scholarship has taught me many lessons in my life. First off the lesson that Mr. Love presented which was that no matter who you are and what you do you can be a blessing to someone else. I was intrigued by Mr. Love’s story. Mr. Love is an African American man that is making a difference in young black people’s lives with making little money as a custodian. It made me wonder what else was possible. Then I knew that if he could do this that means that I could go off to school and be successful not only as an athlete but as a Student as well. It truly inspired me to keep going when things got tough in college. I used Mr. Love’s story to get me through a lot of hard times I faced while away at school. Like being home sick, classes not going my way, not being as successful as I wanted to be on the court and many other challenges. Overall it gave me a benchmark to not settle in life and always strive to do better not only for myself but more importantly for others. Another lesson I learned was how to take care of and spend my money on the right things. This helped me when I got to college and started receiving scholarship money. This scholarship gave me a head start in preparing to leave for college. With the money I bought cleaning supplies, clothing, storage bins, and all the necessary things I needed to go off to school and live on my own for the first time in my life. I never handled that much money to myself before and because of it’s great value I didn’t want to put it to waste so with help from my parents I successfully bought everything I needed for school. I want to end off by telling a story. Before I received this scholarship I knew nothing about Mr. Love. I didn’t even know about the scholarship that he was giving out. I for sure didn’t know that I was a candidate to get the scholarship either, but what I didn’t know was Mr. Love was watching me seeing how I was and how I treated people. He asked my teachers about me, he did his research. Finally he came to the decision to choose me as one of the recipients to get his scholarship that comes out of the little pay that he makes as a custodian. It still ceases to amaze me to this day of how great of a man he is and what he has done. It made me think of the old saying of you never know who’s watching and what they can do for you. It reinforced the idea of the integrity of doing things the right way all the time not just because someone’s watching.I am truly appreciative to be apart of something great that Mr. Love is doing. I wish the best of luck to him and his work helping and inspiring people like myself. Lastly, I want to thank you for taking the time to hear my story and learn a little about me and my life.

In July 2019, George Love used Prepared’s Operation Holy Smoke program to feed community members along Bartmer Ave in St. Louis. The goal? To bring neighbors together in peace and friendship to offset the trauma and negativity of gun violence that plagues the area.

On April 16th, 2019, Prepared: The Gateway of the Northwest awarded 34 $500 scholarships to 34 high school students throughout the St. Louis Public School District. This is the third time the Vashon High custodian and Prepared founder, George Love, and his wife, Stephanie, have awarded

The event was a resounding success. Thanks to generous donors, we were able to break our record by awarding 34 scholarships across 11 schools in the urban community. This is in contrast to Prepared’s 2017 & 2018 scholarship efforts, wherein George Love and his wife, Stephanie,

George Love & Scholarship Fund Featured On Steve Harvey Talk Show!

Wow! It’s been an exciting week for Prepared and custodian George Love…

On Tuesday, Mr. Love was featured on Steve TV, Steve Harvey’s television talk show. They discussed Prepared’s Dorothy Mae Walker-Love Scholarship Fund as well as Mr. Love’s inspiration and impact. At one point, Steve surprised Mr. Love by bringing out two former Vashon High School scholarship recipients!

It was truly an honor to be featured on such a prominent talk show, especially by one of Hollywood’s hardest working and established entertainers. Hopefully, this exposure will allow Prepared to expand the scholarship program and inspire/assist many more students.

It’s been a while since we’ve updated the site. A lot has happened! Most notably, Prepared’s George Love has made several media appearances over the past several months.

It all started when a local St. Louis news station caught wind of Mr. Love’s high school scholarship program. After being featured in a brief news clip, Mr. Love was contacted by other Missouri-based networks. Since then, Mr. Love’s Vashon high school scholarship campaign has made headlines around the country.

The party was dedicated to the Seattle Seahawks’ game as well as the parents of five of the Seahawks’ star players: Sherman, Thomas, Bennett, Lockette (retired) and Lynch (retired). After the tailgate ended, we attended the game as a VIP group, during which we greeted the players on the field before kicking off the start of the game.

Prepared And Vashon High School Baseball Team Feed The Community!

Last month, we were blessed to have St. Louis Vashon High School coach Darius Tubbs and his baseball team join us for Operation Holy Smoke.

What a team! Although they didn’t make the State Championship this year, they were able to make it to the National Leagues, AND feed over

           200 people

in north St. Louis with the help of Prepared: The Gateway of the Northwest. Along side their inspirational coach, the team was able to elevate itself to a new height of community activism.

Beyond feeding the community, Prepared wants to give ambitious and responsible young men a platform to grow in community involvement. Student Deven Grant is a great example of one such young man, having received his perfect attendance award, Honor Roll, and the highest achievement awards the ROTC had to offer. Coach Darius and Prepared value this sort of excellence and are always seeking similarly motivated youth and students to join the cause!

It was an honor working with Coach Darius and his baseball team, and we can’t wait for more opportunities in the future.

           Stay tuned for more updates.

Vashon High School Teacher Says “Thanks” For Attendence-Boosting Donations!

We would like to showcase a letter of appreciation from one of Vashon High School’s most committed and effective teachers, Shamonda Owens.

Shamonda has seen an increase in student attendance as a result from our juice donations. In her own words,

“Your positive rewards for attendance helps us continue in our mission and to assist those students within the building to get to class on time and to get our attendance data up.”

           She goes on to say,

“I would also like to thank you for the refrigerator that help us to keep the juices cold and to give more to students as attendance went up to 80%…”

There’s still a lot more work to be done. Shamonda admits that while attendance HAS improved, she would ideally like to see it hit at least 92%.

Challenge accepted. Prepared will continue to aid the efforts of dedicated teachers like Shomanda any way we can.

Just like those juices incentivize students to show up to class, letters of appreciation from Vashon High’s best and brightest incentivize us to fight the good fight.

The Students Speak Out… [Letters]

Wow, the letters keep piling in. Prepared feels truly blessed to receive such positive feedback from those Mr. Love has inspired personally.

Here’s a few letters we received from two Vashon High School students.

“I do feel that Mr. George love has a great impact on Vashon high school. Mr. Love gives us all hope. He shows us that we can do whatever we put our minds to. Mr. Love made each of us feel special in our own way. He always showed that he cared about students and how we performed and that we were awarded for our accomplishments. He made us feel like we mattered to someone. Some kids might not get that appreciation or acknowledgement at home and by Mr. Love acknowledging our accomplishments by providing us with snacks and drinks reassured us that our hard work does not go unnoticed. Mr. Love set a lot of examples. For me he showed me that judging people is not the key. But helping and encouraging people is. He is a very nice person and appreciated by many. Hee might not know but his nice gestures has helped many kids here at Vashon high. Mr. Love should continue blessing Vashon high school because he is helping students by showing us how much he cares. He is always supporting students and encouraging us to do better. We appreciate all that he does and love having him around.

           Here’s another one:

This christmas of 2014 pastor Love and his organization worked miracles for our family. With my dad being a single parent and not having the ability to provide us with the best christmas, pastor Love stepped in and made it wonderful. He took the time out of his life to make sure my family was provided for. That saturday morning waking up to him standing on the porch with boxes filled with food and bags of toys brought a sense of relief to my family. Pastor Love provided us with a beautiful christmas dinner and many toys for my five siblings. He gave my family the christmas spirit again. We thank you pastor love!”

Vashon High School Shows Appreciation For Prepared’s Donations! [Updated 1/28/15]

2014 was a big year for Prepared. Our Adopt-a-School program gained some great momentum, and we were able to offer donations to a number of St. Louis Public Schools.

In particular, we’re happy to have been able to aid Vashon High School by donating an abundance of Capri Sun juice and Kool-Aid drinks to the students.

To our surprise and excitement, Vashon High School’s staff and students responded very favorably.

We feel blessed to receive such positive feedback, as it validates our mission and fuels our desire to make positive contributions to the community (whenever and wherever possible).

This is just the beginning. We look forward to further involvement in the St. Louis Public School system going forward in 2015.
